Trophies come in four flavors: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. A Platinum Trophy is unlocked only when every other Trophy for a game is completed, except for those tied to downloadable content (DLC). However, if the base game’s Trophies include any that require online play, they are counted for the Platinum.
Nintendo and developer Platinum Games have partnered up for Bayonetta 2, which is a sequel to the original character-action game on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (and now the Wii U as well). It stars the titular Bayonetta who is a lanky-yet-curvy witch who must fight off waves of demons and angels to rescue her friend from an eternity in hell.
The narrative is a bunch of clichés that had me checking my phone and skipping cutscenes. It’s not all bad. The characters are mostly interesting, and the presentation is well done. I also like that it takes place Christmas time. But that stuff isn’t enough to make up for another lackluster gaming story. It’s a bummer because Bayonetta is so cool, and she deserves the chance to shine in something better.
It’s going to cost $59.99 Euros, or 80 bucks US, but since the gaming industry loves to scale these prices for the market so that it always costs the same number of currency units in every market, expect it to cost $59.95. The pack will include Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2, and last year’s awesome, underrated Resistance 3 . No release date has been confirmed but no doubt that’s coming now that the cat is out of the bag.
That isn’t really for me. Thankfully, the game works as a one-time beginning-to-end experience. For you crazies who want to get the pure-platinum medal on every stage, the game gives you plenty of ways to keep the action fresh. Multiple costumes and weapons makes Bayonetta look and feel different. You’re also not gonna unlock everything with a main playthrough.
Fans of the series will immediately recognize the gameplay — as will anyone that’s enjoyed similar character-action games like God of War. It is, at this point, a well-worn formula. So while the character Bayonetta fights with the denizens of heaven and hell, the game is waging its own battle with time and relevance.
Nearly all the Trophies are tied to the story and cannot be missed. The only requirement to get these Trophies is to play as Megamind, and to play solo. As long as you do this, all the other Trophies will come through normal gameplay. If you happen to miss one, it just takes a simple retry in a level and you’ll have it in no time.
Each episode will take you around 2-3 hours, so you’re looking at 10-12 hours for the Platinum, which requires you to finish all five episodes. The strong emotions in the game may make it feel longer, depending on the player. Take your time and have fun with this one; there’s no difficulty setting to worry about.
